ITINERARY
Day 1 – Edinburgh to Keith
Travel North from Edinburgh, crossing the Firth of Forth on the magnificent Forth Railway Bridge. Savour both a leisurely afternoon tea and blissful views as you pass Arbroath, Montrose and Aberdeen before arriving at Keith. Indulge in an informal dinner accompanied by Entertainment in the Observation Car.
Day 2 – Keith to Plockton and on to Kyle of Lochalsh
Leave Keith this morning as the train navigates west along the Moray Firth towards Inverness, sovereign of the Highlands. As the train heads towards Kyle of Lochalsh, an exquisite lunch will be served complimented by views of what is arguably the most scenic railway route in the UK. Disembark in picturesque Plockton and take a boat trip to see wild seals and seabirds or enjoy a dram and a traditional Highland welcome in the cosy Plockton Hotel. Alternatively, why not visit Eilean Donan Castle, one of Scotland’s most iconic landmarks. Spend the evening on board the train in Kyle of Lochalsh. Enjoy a formal dinner followed by coffee and liqueurs in the Observation Car.
Day 3 – Kyle of Lochalsh to Carrbridge and on to Boat of Garten
The train retraces the route north to Inverness, then South to Carrbridge where guests will disembark to explore romantic Ballindalloch Castle on stunning Speyside. Guests can decide on either a private castle tour, 9 holes of Golf on the castle’s own course, or an exclusive insight into Scotland’s only single estate distillery! The evening is spent on board at Boat of Garten on the private Strathspey Railway. After an informal dinner, our Highlander regales guests with tales and weaponry displays.
Day 4 – Kingussie, Dunkeld, Perth and Dundee
Travel by coach to Rothiemurchus Estate in the very heart of the Cairngorms National Park, where fishing, clay pigeon shooting or a tour of the estate can be enjoyed. Guests re-join the train at Kingussie, lunch is served during the journey south to Dunkeld, where guests then disembark for a visit to the magnificent Glamis Castle, childhood home of the late HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Return to the train in Perth for a formal dinner and excellent entertainment. Overnight stay on board in Dundee.
Day 5 – Homeward Bound
After breakfast the train heads south to Edinburgh where the journey ends. Guests bid farewell to The Royal Scotsman leaving new friends to take home wonderful memories and the experience of a lifetime.
