The sample tour below is just one way in which your group can spend a week taking in the amazing landscapes of Norway as you travel by train towards the Arctic Circle, with time to enjoy some Norwegian city culture and history too.
ITINERARY
Day 1 – London to Oslo
A morning flight from London to Oslo. Upon arrival you’ll be transferred to your centrally located hotel that provides an excellent base to explore the city’s many museums and historical sites.
Day 2 – At Leisure in Oslo
At leisure in Oslo. You may wish to visit one of the many museums situated on the Bygdøy Peninsula. The Viking Ship Museum is deemed a firm favourite. This 9th century burial ship, excavated in 1904-05, is like new as it was encased in water and airtight mud. Alternatively visit the home of the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, the Oslo Opera House. Completed in 2007, this spellbinding landmark sits on the harbour and resembles an iceberg.
Day 3 – North to Trondheim
Departing early, take your first scenic rail journey and travel through the Gudbrandsdal Valley, crossing the stunning Dovrefjell mountain plateau and National Park to Trondheim. A free afternoon and evening allows you plenty of time to explore this picturesque city.
Day 4 – Across the Arctic Circle
This Arctic rail line starts in the picturesque, historic town of Trondheim and takes you through amazing scenery to the beautifully located, Arctic coastal town of Bodø. The Nordland Railway crosses the Arctic Circle (66 degrees north) just before reaching Lonsdal, the highest station on the line at 512km above sea level.
Day 5 – Overnight to Oslo via Trondheim
A day at leisure in Bodø before travelling back south to Oslo via sleeper train to Trondheim. Enjoy Bodø and its cathedral, the Norwegian Aviation Museum or the Nordland Museum.
Day 6 – Arrive Oslo
An afternoon arrival into Oslo leaves time to see anything you missed at the beginning of your holiday.
Day 7 – Homeward Bound
Transfer from your Oslo hotel to the airport in time for your morning flight back to London.
