Famous symbologist Robert Langdon, played by Tom Hanks, is back on cinema screens in Inferno – the third novel in Dan Brown’s trilogy. The plot follows a trail of clues tied to the great medieval poet Dante and sees Langdon team up with Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), a doctor, in a race across Europe and against the clock to foil a deadly global plot. You too can follow their journey as they visit many famous landmarks in Florence and Venice and travel by train through Italy. Your trip will be less dramatic, but at a pace that allows you to soak up the beauty and history of Florence and Venice.
ITINERARY
Day 1
An afternoon Eurostar service to Paris, and then board an overnight train to Milan. The holiday adventure begins when you board the train – sit back and experience why rail travel across Europe has been the inspiration for many novels and films.
Day 2
Wake up in Milan, and take a morning train to Florence. Hopefully you will not be as disorientated as Robert Langdon! Experience Florence and Tuscany and sightsee at leisure. Explore the old city, the Boboli Gardens, Il Duomino and other sites Langdon searches for clues.
Day 3
Join a walking tour of Florence. This guided tour of Palazzo Vecchio will follow in the footsteps of Robert Langdon from Dan Brown's Inferno and you will spot the attractions visited by the code-cracking main character. Check out the secret escape way known as the "Duke of Athens staircase"; Discover Vasari's huge and magnificenct frescos “Salone dei Cinquecento”; Climb the ancient “Capriate” (trusses) supporting the roof of the Salone dei Cinquecento to see the original “death mask of Dante Alighieri”, before moving into the “Hall of Geographical Maps”, where you will find the secret passage which Robert Langdon used too escape from the building. Finally you will enter through the secret step up into “Bianca Cappello’s dressing room”.
Day 4
Travel to Venice on a lunch time Frecciargento train and enjoy Italy’s wonderful landscape in more relaxed circumstances than Langdon, Sienna and Dr Ferris do in Inferno.
Day 5
Spend your day exploring St Mark’s Basilica, the Palazzo Vecchio, and the other sites of Venice. A Vaporetto pass is included so you can use the waterways to explore the city.
Day 6
Continue to explore Venice before your evening departure for home from Venice Santa Lucia station. Don’t forget to admire the “elegant, low-slung structure” and look for the only signage on the facade, the winged letters FS.
Day 7
Arrive in Paris and, after time to cross the city, take a Eurostar back to London arriving at lunchtime.
