ITINERARY

Day 1

Fly from London to Rome and transfer by train to city centre hotel. Stay 3 nights at 3* Hotel Lancelot close to the Colosseum.

Days 2 & 3

Free days for sightseeing. Amongst the famous sights of the city are the Roman Fort, Trevi Fountain, Colosseum, Spanish Steps and the Vatican City. We can organise an optional escorted tour if required.

Day 4

Leaving Rome on the high speed train, a short journey of just over an hour takes you to Naples. Stay 2 nights at the 3* Grand Europa Hotel. Rest of the day free for exploring the city.

Day 5

Full day based in Naples to visit Mount Vesuvius or the ancient ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Day 6

Leaving Naples by train this route follows the coast and is much more sedate as the high speed trains do not operate south of Naples. The scenery is stunning and for many the highlight of the trip is the train ferry crossing over the Strait of Messina. Once on Sicily the train continues to the hilltop town of Taormina. Whilst Messina was almost totally destroyed by a huge earthquake around 100 years ago, Taormina remained unscathed. Stay 3 nights at the 3* Hotel Isabella.

Days 7 & 8

Free days based in Taormiona. The city is a real mix of architecture and has a wonderful view of nearby Mount Etna. The town is connected to the beach by a cableway.

Day 9

Morning train to Catania and afternoon flight back to London.
