Series 3, Episode 3 Great Continental Railway Journeys. We follow Portillo deep into central Europe to explore a country where east meets west: Poland. A 6-day rail journey that allows plenty of time to sample the elegant and artistic atmosphere of Warsaw, Lodz, Poznan and Krakow.
ITINERARY
Day 1
Fly from Heathrow to Warsaw. Stay 2 nights at the 5* Hotel Bristol.
Day 2
Free day based in Warsaw. You may wish to find the cubes containing reproductions of Canaletto paintings showing how little the city scape has changed. Maybe you will take a horse-drawn carriage, or stop for lunch in the Jewish quarter. Make some time to stroll through Łazienki Park.
Day 3
Transfer by train to the former industrial heartland of Łodz for an overnight stay.
Day 4
Travel from Łodz for Poznan. Stay for 2 nights.
Day 5
Free day based in Poznan. You could visit the Wolstyn Experience where steam engines still haul commuter trains, though it is rumoured that the steam may be suspended.
Day 6
Travel from Poznan to Krakow. Stay for 2 nights at the Grand Hotel.
Day 7
Free day based in Krakow - why not have lunch in a milk bar? But don't forget to try the preztels!
Day 8
Flight from Krakow to London Gatwick.
